RCG Consulting, LLC. Frequently Asked Questions
What is TDMA?
Short for Time Division Multiple Access, a technology for delivering digital wireless service using time-division multiplexing (TDM). TDMA works by dividing a radio frequency into time slots and then allocating slots to multiple calls. In this way, a single frequency can support multiple, simultaneous data channels. TDMA is used by the GSM digital cellular system.
What is UMTS?
Short for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, a 3G mobile
technology that will deliver broadband information at speeds up to 2Mbit
s/sec.
Besides voice and data, UMTS will deliver audio and video to wireless
devices anywhere in the world through fixed, wireless and satellite
systems.
What is FTTP?
FTTP involves laying optical fiber from a central location (switch)
to a termination point (the home or business), and could potentially
deliver broadband at speeds of up to 100Mbps. The actual speed is
determined by the size of the Passive Optical Network (PON). The
technology is capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 2.5Gbps,
this amount is divided by the number of termination points on the PON to
determine the actual bandwidth to each end point.
What is the GR-1275?
The
GR-1275 details methods, procedures, and requirements for installing and
removing all types of telecommunications equipment, cabling, and
ironwork. It provides users with minimum requirements for the
installation of Central Office equipment, including Switch, Transport,
and Power. GR-1275 provides broad coverage of all the generic
requirements for Central Office equipment installation. It is a valuable
resource that an installer, manager, technician, and equipment engineer
can use to verify the conformance to requirements.
